Security for school opening tomorrow tight: Tumulak
Stricter security measures will be implemented as classes in public schools open tomorrow, Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak said.
Tumulak said the authorities should keep a close watch on vital areas, such as schools and churches, among others.
“To be safe, parents should send their kids to school and we will ask authorities to strengthen the security,” Tumulak told reporters.
His statement came after the shooting incident in Resorts World Manila that left 38 people dead and dozens injured.
Aside from schools, Tumulak said he will also ask the parish security group to secure their churches.
Also, Tumulak will meet with the security heads of malls and resorts tomorrow to discuss the request of Mayor Tomas Osmeña to allow police officers, both uniformed and in plainclothes, to bring their guns inside their establishments.
Tumulak said they will discuss how to go about the directive of the mayor since there are malls that allow only police officers to bring their guns with them when they are wearing their uniforms.
Earlier, Osmeña said he wants councilors to come up with a local legislation that will allow police officers, whether uniformed or in plainclothes, to carry their firearms in public areas like hotels and malls.
Tumulak said he will also furnish the malls and resorts with the list of police officers serving the Cebu City Police Office for verification purposes.
