1 PHOTOGRAPH­ER DIES IN BIKE CRASH IN MANDAUE

A sports photograph­er died after he hit his head on the gutter while biking in Jagobiao, Mandaue City yesterday morning. A rescue team from the Philippine Red Cross tried to revive John Domingo and rush him to the nearest hospital, but it was too late. Alan Tangcawan, a photograph­er of Superbalit­a Cebu and a close friend of Domingo, expressed his grief over his death. “The last message he sent me was, ‘Take care in your coverage’ because I am still in Marawi. I didn’t expect it would be his last message for me,” Tangcawan said. / JOB

2 FATHER HACKS SON DEAD FOR MAULING HIS NIECE

A 60-year-old father killed his son after he saw him mauling his niece in Sitio Panjay, Barangay Sta. Cruz, San Francisco last Friday afternoon. Initial investigat­ion by San Fernando police said Jessie Dichosa, 39, and his father Rodrigo were drunk when they went home at 4:50 p.m. Then Jessie started hitting his niece. When Rodrigo failed to pacify his son, he got a bolo from the kitchen and hacked his son. Jessie was rushed to a nearby hospital but he was declared dead by doctors there. Rodrigo was arrested to face charges for parricide. / JOB

3 MAN ARRESTED FOR TRANSPORTI­NG COCO LUMBER

The Bantayan Police Station intercepte­d an illegal transporta­tion of coconut lumber at the public market in Barangay Suba last Friday evening. Acting on a tip from a concerned citizen, police arrested Alvin Legaspi, 36, who hails from Kalubian, Leyte. He was caught loading 1,020 boards of coco lumber on to his pump boat. Legaspi failed to present documents that he owned the cargo. He is now in custody of the Bantayan police and will face charges for the violation of RA 8048, or the Coconut Preservati­on Act of 1995. / JOB

4 SON OF RETIRED JUDGE ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL DRUGS

Fuente Police Station arrested a son of a retired judge in Barangay Cogon Ramos for illegal drugs. Cesar Euginio Estrera, 42, was arrested after he was caught carrying four sachets of drugs worth P3,000. He is the son of retired judge Cesar Estrera and was included in the Fuente Police Station’s drug watch list. Estrera tried to elude the personnel from the Drug Enforcemen­t Unit of Fuente police, but other officers cornered him. He will face charges for the violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehens­ive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. / JOB

5 5 DRUG SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN LAPU BUY-BUSTS

Five persons were arrested in separate police operations in Lapu-Lapu City last Friday. Lapu-Lapu Police Station 3 arrested Salvador Tampus Jr., 28, in a buy-bust in Barangay Gunob at 4 p.m. Eight sachets of shabu and the buy-bust money were recovered from him. Police also arrested Artemio Augusto, 30; Romeo Yvañez, 56; and Annette Amante, 34, in Barangay Babag at 6 p.m. Ten sachets and a medium pack of shabu and drug parapherna­lia were confiscate­d from them. Later, police caught Samuel Tampus, 49, in Sitio Ibabao in Barangay Agus. / FMG
