Global Cebu concedes late goal again

-

Global Cebu FC’s woes continue after conceding a late goal yet again for a 0-1 loss to Ceres Negros FC in Philippines Football League (PFL) yesterday at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

Stephan Schrock, who came off the bench in the 52nd minute, was a huge factor in the second half. The 30-year-old Azkal mainstay created a beautiful play that opened up the only goal of the match. Schrock made a cross pass that connected with a left-footed volley by Jeffrey Christiaens that hit the back of the net in the 83rd minute.

With three minutes of stoppage time added, Global Cebu FC had a perfect opportunity to score but central defender Amani Aguinaldo’s header just went wide.

Ceres Negros FC, which just recently advanced to the Asean Zonal finals of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup last Wednesday with a 2-1 win over Johor Darul Ta’zim, had control of the ball in 68 percent of the match. It also opened up a lot of shots attempts, 18 in total, in which 10 were on target. Global Cebu FC just had nine shot attempts and only one on target.

Early on, Ceres Negros FC put pressure on Global Cebu FC, with two headers by Spanish midfielder Bienvenido Marañon.

Hikaru Minegishi had a chance to score the opening goal in the 36th minute but it was blocked by Roland Muller. Striker Shu Sasaki also had a chance just before half time but his shot went wide. /
