■ STUDY TIPS FOR THE COMING SCHOOL YEAR
Some students share study tips now that school days are just around the corner. The best place to study, they say, is in the school library where the silence allows concentration while reading or making one’s assignment, and where the references also are. Silence, they say, is key, and so is time management. Prayers also come in handy. Or cross-referencing with YouTube, or simply getting a comfortable place, will do the trick for a perfect study mindset.
School is just about a few days from now! Surely, one hasn’t forgotten how to study, right? The best place to study is in the school library where it is quiet and conducive to reading and making one’s homework, and where reference materials are at hand. This is especially good for students with an hour or two break between classes. But let’s hear it from students themselves on what they think are good tips to get the best time out of studying!
Prayers
“Dental school is certainly a place where some serious learning takes place. My professor who is a doctor once said that just because your book is open doesn’t mean you’re studying. Learn to focus and avoid distractions. And never doubt what one prayer can do,” Beverly Mercado, dentistry student
Quiet
“When I study, I make sure the environment is quiet so I can focus and concentrate well. I also turn my phone on silent to avoid any distractions,” Kaye
Santander, media communications student
Basics
“If it’s really hard to understand the topic, don’t be afraid to ask others or watch videos like in YouTube, for instance. Now, if you can explain it in your own words then it means that you have really grasped the topic,” Mark James Melendres, medicine student
Fresh
“New environments help me stay awake, say a different area at home or different coffee shops. Sleepiness is truly one of my worst enemies when I study because let’s face it, sitting there while facing books and notes for long hours is a good sleep inducer,” Val Cathryne, medicine student
Comfort
“To get myself into ‘studymood’, the first factor I consider is comfort, like simply adjusting my chair, arranging my highlighters or putting on my most comfortable clothes. Another tip is putting on some music. Music helps lessen the stress I feel from all the reading and analysis,” Frances Samson, law student
Time
“Certainly, the secret to doing well in med school is time management. Setting a realistic schedule and strictly following it can go a long way. Balance is key. You’ll become much more productive and focused if you take time off for yourself,” Maria Catherine Quiapo, medicine student
