Over 800 CitySavings team leaders and members volunteered to do repainting and minor repairs in more than 300 school buildings and facilities located all over the country.

In Cebu City, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones, together with other DepEd officials, attended the Brigada kick-off at the Ramon Duterte National High School.

“Education is given much importance in our nation. Parents would even sell their last properties and resources just to send their children to school. Everyone is interested to learn so let’s continue our efforts in Brigada Eskwela. While it is true that financial contributions have increased, this is just one of the measures. We recognize and will continue to work with civic organizations who have already been going out on field and initiating strategies to reach out with the communities,” said Briones.

“I’m very happy for the support from City Savings Bank and its volunteers, especially on the refurbishment of our faculty room to make it more conducive and help our teachers better prepare their instructional materials before classes’ starts” said Dr. Gemma Bendebel, Barrio Luz National High School principal.

Mandaue City Central School principal Claribel Colipapa said that the goal of activity is to create a better learning environment for the students.

“With this year’s Brigada Eskwela theme, Isang DepEd, Isang Pamayanan, Isang Bayanihan, para sa Handa at Ligtas na Paaralan, we at CitySavings consider this event as an opportunity for our employees to take part in nation building by painting classrooms and doing minor repairs, in line with our Bank’s core values of service and responsibility” said CitySavings FVP-sales and marketing head Bombi Dominguez.

Brigada Eskwela is a program of the Department of Education that aims to bring together the community every third week of May to repair and prepare public elementary and secondary schools for the school opening
