MHAM Ceso holds free circumcision, serves 67 boys

A total of 67 young boys benefited from the free circumcision, Operation Tuli, conducted by the Matias H. Aznar Memorial College of Medicine (MHAM) Community Extension Services Office (Ceso) last May 12.

The medical mission was held in partnership with the Caduceus Rescue Unit (CRU) to its partner community in Barangay Calidngan, Carcar City, Cebu.

There were 83 first year students who volunteered to take part in the activity led by Ceso director Jarvis Prochina, human resource department director Pedro Pañares, information technology consultant Francisco Bacalla, and associate dean Dr. Allan Librando.

The whole-day medical mis- sion was organized in response to the request of the barangay to hold a free circumcision and to sponsor a novena mass for the annual fiesta celebration of the barangay’s patron saint, San Isidro Labrador.

The barangay council approved a resolution about their requests to the school.

“We have sponsored the novena-mass for their fiesta celebration in honor of San Isidro Ladrador and the medical mission was indeed the MHAM way as part of being our partner in the development of our people and community. The whole day activity was indeed a big help to the partner community to provide medical services to indigent children who needs to be circumcised. We also provided them proper medicines for circumcision,” said Prochina.

Carcar City Councilor Rogelio Montesclaros was also present during the medical mission, together with the Barangay Health Workers.

Dean Librando, meanwhile, said that the medical mission also aims to bridge the gap between the medical students and the community.

“The medical mission was part of exposure of these freshmen students who have passed the basic life support as an entry for membership. They still have to undergo the advance life support and vertical rescue seminars as part of the requirements,” said Librando.
