PhSU bags 8 golds in SEA Skating

The Philippine Skating Union (PhSU) dominated the 2017 Southeast Asian (SEA) Skating Challenge, which wrapped up yesterday at the SM Seaside City Cebu skating rink.

The PhSU bagged eight gold medals in the two-day figure skating competitio­n on top of three silver medals and one bronze medal.

National team member Jules Alpe was unconteste­d in his division and came up with 116.38 points to get the junior men’s title.

Bianca Arianne Vinarao added gold medal in the basic senior ladies with 34.4 points, while Keith Stephanie Angeles chipped in another gold medal after scoring 45.70 points in the basic junior ladies.

Ella Marie Mendoza, meanwhile, scored 74.16 points in the junior ladies to outperform Malaysia’s Jin Xing Ng (65.95) and Sze Chyi Chew (60.81) who settled for silver and bronze medals, respective­ly.

Diane Gabrielle Panlilio topped the advanced novice girls with 53.21 points while Malaysia’s Kyla Ichelle Ernest settled for silver with 51.17 points.

In the basic novice B, Charmaine Skye Chua won gold medal by scoring 36.28 points while teammates Andreane Ariones and Skye Frances Patenia had 34.20 and 33.99 points to finish as runners-up.

In the basic novice A, Kate Orrock scored 26 points to beat Thai Jennifer Pulgasem who had 23.57 markers and Malaysia’s Sofia Halim with 21.45.

PhSU sports director Christophe­r Martin said that they’re looking to organize bigger internatio­nal skating competitio­ns here after the successful event. He added that the SM Seaside skating rink is ideal for internatio­nal competitio­ns.
