Remolino, Manayon top Regent 5i50

Cebu’s triathlete­s showed their prowess as they bagged podium spots in the 2017 Regent 5i50 Triathlon in Subic yesterday.

Junior triathlete Andrew Kim Remolino shone in the sprint race, winning the men’s 15-19 division in 1 hour, 5 minutes and 15 seconds over Julius Constantin­o and Juan Francisco Baniqued.

The 17-year-old from Talisay City clocked 10:07 in the 750-meter swim, timed 32:28 in the 20K bike and 19:29 in the 5K run.

The national team member for triathlon Remolino also bagged the second overall award behind the 20-24 class champion Edward Macaladlad who had a time of 1:03:23.

Cebuana Karen Manayon placed second in the women’s overall sprint race with a time of 1:11:35, behind the eventual champion Nicole Danielle Eijansanto­s who had 1:10:44. Samantha Borlain was third with 1:12:05.

Both Remolino and Manayon are new members of the Rider Omega Pro Triathlon Team. The two will race in the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) Cagayan de Oro City on July 8 before suiting up for the country in the 2017 ASTC Palembang Asian Championsh­ip on July 22 to 23 in Indonesia.

On the other hand, Paul Jumamil, also from Omega Pro, placed third in the men’s elite Olympic standard race. Jumamil finished the 1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run race in 2:10:19.

National team member John Leerams Chicano was hailed as the eventual champion after clocking 2:03:06, while 2015 Southeast Asian (Sea) Games gold medalist Nikko Huelgas salvaged second place with 2:06:19.
