Actors, VM’s bro to revive local film industrty

PLAN. I have it from my good friend Rolly Diorico that he, actress Suzette Ranillo and filmmaker Jojo Labella are planning to come up with a Visayan indie movie that they hope would be patronized by the general public. Diorico was once a teleserye actor and producer, Ranillo is veteran actress Gloria Sevilla’s daughter, and Labella is Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgar Labella’s younger brother. The three of them have one thing in common: the passion to revive the local film industry.

CHALLENGE. Materializing this plan is a tall order. Will the movie-going public enjoy or like it, so that the film would not be pulled out from showing on the second day? It depends upon several factors like interesting stars, nice storyline, excellent direction, fine musical scoring, pleasing cinematography, exciting production design, etc.

SAD. I’m sad to know that veteran radio drama talent and novelty singer Roger Varca has passed on. He was one of the voice actors of the highly popular Western drama Diego Salvador in the ‘70s. He was also the partner of Demmy Codilla of the comic duo Dos Compadres. Godspeed, Roger.

CELEBRATION. When newly minted lawyer Miguela Gabisan of Gabisan Shipping Lines did her thanksgiving party in Leyte, singing businesswoman Hildi Montesclaros, the comic duo Bulabog Boys, female serenader Adeline Talam and this writer wowed the spectators with our respective numbers. But it was Gabisan herself that mesmerized the public with her two songs. The singing nurse and lawyer is popularly known as the Regine Velasquez of Hilongos. (For reactions, text 0932-277-8771.)
