Patafa, Juico show they aren’t beneath bullies

- MIKE T. LIMPAG mikelimpag@gmail.com

What do bullies do when they get cornered? They gather all their friends and lash out and they’d even get their friends to say a thing or two at their target too.

Patafa president Philip Ella Juico, with the national team coaching staff and athletes in tow, basically humiliated Olympian Mary Joy Tabal in a public setting, accusing the Cebuana of all sorts of things while announcing that’s she’s been dropped from the national pool.

It was supposed to be a show of force but only an idiot would think that a national coach or athlete would go against the whims of an NSA president. If an NSA president wants an athlete to say the world is flat, he or say would say so.

But, wait a minute kapeng mainit, to be dropped from the national pool, one has to be part of the national pool right? And all this time that Joy, her handlers and the community in Cebu have been wondering when our country’s top marathoner can get to join the SEA Games, she was part of the national pool? Didn’t Patafa itself drop her after the Rio Olympics?

What was Joy’s fault? Juico claims she’s disruptive, divisive, and said, “Sisirain mo itong community, wawasakin mo pa itong federation. Tigil na, tama na. This has been going on for too long.”

Juico overlooked one simple thing. Joy never did any of those. In all the times that she has been out of the national team and training her sight on the SEA Games, she has been very silent with regards Patafa.

She hasn’t said a thing, despite what Juico and his minions have been doing.

That others took up the fight for Joy because they see the injustice— me especially—doesn’t mean Joy is lobbying with the local media. No, Mr. Juico, Cebu sports doesn’t function that way. And what in God’s name did Joy ever do that led him to believe “wawasakin ang federation?” I know I called for the formation of a new NSA for track and field because of the actions of Patafa and is that the fault of Joy?

I made the call for a new NSA for track and field to highlight Juico’s and Patafa’s incompetence and lack of a grassroots program.

Just because you get criticized for the way you handled Joy you pick on Joy? Why, Mr. Juico, you may be the PSA’s executive of the year but you are not god.

And if Juico thinks Joy’s handlers or sponsors are behind the critical columns, then again, we don’t operate that way. The first time I got to Jonel Borromeo, Joy’s sponsor, this year was when Patafa issued that statement that Joy wouldn’t be part of the SEAG. He said that they didn’t really bother Patafa because prior that, the NSA, and Juico himself issued statements that Joy would be part of the SEA Games team.

Juico overlooked one simple thing. Joy never did any of those. In all the times that she has been out of the national team and training her sight on the SEA Games, she has been very silent with regards Patafa .
