Team set for big finish

The newly-formed Organique Acai Triathlon Team aims to make podium finishes on its first year as a triathlon squad.

The team, which was formed early this year, formally launched its 20-man squad at the Pig and Palm restaurant in Cebu Business Park yesterday.

“This is a young team, but we immediatel­y had a successful campaign during the Dipolog Triathlon last month. Our main goal for this year is to have a good showing in the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippine­s,” said team captain June Bastida.

The rest of the members are May Salimbango­n, Charles Balbuena, Imar Oracion, Joanna Uy, Rue Pañibon, Khu Arellano, Mark Uy, Steve Guanzon, Charles Calunod, Chad Go, Alexander Diaz, Kyrie Mehanes, James Pagay, Francis Salimbango­n, Glenn Gonzales, Marco Mempin, Jodl Dabon, Chad Salimbango­n and Arjae Ravago.

“We came from different background­s. Started from a group of friends sharing the same passions, we formed a team with a common goal of promoting good health an through active lifestyle. The sport may just be a hobby for some, but the team made it a goal to always go beyond previous achievemen­ts,” said Bastida.

Aside from the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippine­s in August, other races lined up for the team are the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) in July in Cagayan de Oro City, and Bellevue Resort 5150 Triathlon in November in Bohol. The squad is also aiming to join two triathlon events in California later this year.
