It’s Redondo-Quimbo

- EKA

Jason Redondo will try to settle his score with battle-scarred veteran Ryan Quimbo in one of the main fights in the undercard of “Who’s Next?” 5 on July 7 at the Island City Mall in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Redondo was supposed to face another experienced fighter in Alvin Makiling, but instead he’ll be in a rematch with Quimbo.

“I want to win this fight and I also want to make sure the fans will enjoy my fight,” the 23-yearold Redondo said in a statement. “I also want to show what I’ve learned from my coaches during our training sessions and to use my movement and quickness.”

Redondo, who once fought out of the RWS Gym, looks to put his career back on track after a 2-2-1 win-loss-draw campaign in 2015 and 2016. He has yet to fight this year.

Redondo, 11-4-2, with seven knockouts, shockingly lost to veteran Jaime Barcelona by majority decision last year and then settled for a split draw with Quimbo.

The 27-year-old Quimbo has an ugly record of 5-14-2, but he is more talented than how he looks on paper. He has quick hands, but lacks power and has a tough chin. He’s also quite a spoiler with wins over Korean Jae Ho Kim and Charlie Pucdol.

“Who’s Next?” 5 is headlined by unbeaten Jhack Tepora (20-0, 15 KOs) defending his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental super bantamweight belt against Mexican Emmanuel Dominguez (21-5-2, 13 KOs).

Undefeated prospect Christian Araneta (14-0, 12 KOs) is also defending his WBO light flyweight strap against worldranked Jessie Espinas (16-2, 11 KOs) in a rematch in the co-main event. /

Redondo was supposed to fight the experienced Makiling, but intends to fix career with a rematch with Quimbo.
