Cebuanos dominate Vis-Min Drifting race

-

Despite the lack of venue, Cebuano drifters made waves in the Tough Drifting Events’ 1st Drift Visayas-Mindanao Championship, which also featured a Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Legends game dubbed as Hoops and Wheels at the SM City Cebu Parking Area last Saturday.

The Legends headed by Marlou Aquino and Bonel Balingit played an exhibition game along with Jerry Codiñera, Al Solis, Roger Yap, Rey Evangelista, Roel Gomez, Bal David, Kenneth Duremdes and Jerome Jerome as an ice-breaker for the main event, which is the drifting competi- tion.

Top Cebuano drift driver Jong King won the event and was followed by another local hero Anthony Dicdican in second, while Eric Suliguin of Manila placed third in the competition participated in by 10 drifters from all over the country.

“Cebuano drifters are very promising. There are a lot of good drifters from here, who were not given the opportunity because there is no venue for drifting here,” said TD Events vice president for operation Grace Li at the closing rites of the event held at Wellcome Hotel.

Even the country’s top drift driver, Boodie Dabasol, a native of Talisay City, Cebu could not hide his admiration for the Cebuano drifters.

“I am really impressed with the Cebuano drifters, they have all the potential,” said Dabasol, who was the technical chief of the competition.

There are still two more legs left in the Hoops and Wheels event and Li promised to bring the final leg back to Cebu.

“Dito kami nagsimula, dito din kamo magtatapos. At sisiguraduhin namin na mas malaki ang ating final leg,” Li explained.
