- RSC

After three years of rest, the City’s celebrated run will be all-year round

The Healthy Run 2017-18 is back after three years of hiatus and is now an all-year-round sporting event in Lapu-Lapu City.

The running event organized by Lapu-Lapu City Councilor Harry Radaza will run from July this year to June next year with different venues in Lapu-Lapu City.

Mayor says program will keep citizenry healthy throughout the year

The running event started in 2011 with the last staging in 2014 before its revival with 12 legs this year.

“Previously, the run was only for two months. This time around will be doing it for 12 months. We do this to keep our constituents physically healthy,” Radaza told reporters during the press conference yesterday.

Radaza added that they have put an emphasis on the anti-drug campaign and coordinated with the Philippine National Police (PNP) to let the surrenderers join the fun run.

The sporting event kicks off on July 2 from Lapu-Lapu City Hall to Pusok featuring the 5-kilometer, 3K and 1K categories. This will be followed by legs with same categories in August from Ibo Covered Court to Buaya and on Sept. 3 from Looc to Canjulao.

The distances will get longer, covering 6K, 4K and 2K on Oct. 8 from Bankal Basketball Court to Pajac, Nov. 12 from Poblacion Plaza to Looc, and Dec. 3 from Marigondon Covered Court to Suba-Basbas.

The race will then feature 7K, 5K, 3K and 1K on Jan. 7 next year, from Olango Church to Olango Port. On Feb. 4, from Mactan Shrine to Punta Engaño, and March 4 from Maribago Datag covered court to Agus.

The 10th and 11th legs will cover 10K, 7K and 4K on April 8, from Babag Takan to Calawisan, and Gun-ob Hoops Dome to Basak before the series ends on June 3, with 5K, 3K and 1K, categories under the new bridge.

Runners can join all the 12 legs with a one-time fee of P350, inclusive of singlet. To encourage the youth and family to join the sporting activity, the run will be open for free, but there will be no singlet. The run is open to all runners and running enthusiasts.

Every runner who will finish all the 12 legs will receive a finisher’s medal. /
