■ CEBU CITY HALL WORKER KILLED IN ACCIDENT INVOLVING CITY-OWNED TRUCK

An accident in the mountain village of Bonbon in Cebu City yesterday noon claimed the life of a City Hall worker and left six other casual employees injured. They were on their way back to the city proper after delivering tents to Barangay Sudlon I when the truck’s brakes malfunctio­ned. Victor Reyes, 40, died at 2:37 p.m. while first responders were transporti­ng the victims to the Cebu City Medical Center. City Councilor Dave Tumulak said the City Government will extend assistance to the workers since they were on duty when the accident happened.

A Cebu City Hall employee died, while six of his companions were hurt in a vehicular accident in the mountain barangay of Sudlon I yesterday afternoon.

Victor Reyes, 40, died while being transporte­d to the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC). Hospital administra­tor Kenneth Siasar said Reyes was declared dead on arrival at 2:37 p.m.

City Hall has yet to determine if Reyes was the driver of the Elf truck (SJC-683).

“Naghatod kuno ni sila og tent sa Barangay Bonbon. Pagpauli, pagpadulon­g na og dulhog sa may Barangay Sudlon, nakabantay ang driver nga nawagtanga­n na ug brake ilang sakyanan,” he said.

The driver lost control of the truck, which rammed into a utility pole.

“Nalimbuwad gyod ang sakyanan after nabanga sa poste mao to nga na-grabihan si Reyes kay napiit mani siya,” Siasar said.

The injured City Hall workers were identified as Andres Esparaguer­a Jr., 51; June Life Cantaruna, 30; Danelo Opurto, 61; Wenie Cabual, 35; Michael Amante, 32; and Egnasio Ocampo, 34. They are all City Hall casual employees assigned at the General Services Office. All of them suffered fractures, cuts and bruises.

that the injured workers have been declared out of danger as of last night.

Tumulak, who is chairman of the city council committee on public order and safety, said that City Hall will extend help to the workers since they were on duty when the accident happened. /
