■ 5 STRUCTURES, INCLUDING A CHAPEL, DESTROYED IN A MORNING FIRE IN PUSOK, LAPULAPU CITY

A chapel and four structures in Lapu-Lapu and San Miguel’s beer tank in Mandaue were destroyed by the blaze.

It took the firefighte­rs more than an hour to put out the fire that struck Sitio Sewage, Barangay Pusok in Lapu-Lapu City yesterday morning. The blaze, which was raised to Task Force Alpha, destroyed four structures and a chapel. Damage was pegged at P260,000. The fire in Lapu-Lapu City occured on the day after a newly-installed beer tank caught fire at the San Miguel Brewery in Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City. Although the flames were put out after 24 minutes, the firefighte­rs pegged the damage at P2.5 million.

Four structures and a chapel were destroyed after a fire hit Barangay Pusok, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday morning.

The Lapu-Lapu City Fire District (LCFD) received the fire alarm in Sitio Sewage at 10:09 a.m.

Firefighte­rs were able to control the flames at 11:31 a.m.

FO3 James Almasan of LCFD said that the flames reportedly started in the second floor of an establishm­ent owned by Felicitas Igot.

He said a loose electrical connection possibly caused the fire.

The fire immediatel­y spread to the neighborin­g establishm­ents since these were made of light materials.

The San Pedro Chapel was not spared.

Damage to property was pegged at P260,000. No one was injured during the incident, which was raised to Task Force Alpha.

In Mandaue City, a newly-installed beer tank of San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMBI) in Barangay Tipolo was also damaged by fire last Thursday afternoon.

Mandaue Fire Station (MFS) received the alarm at 2:10 p.m. The fire was placed under control at 2:25 p.m and was put out 24 minutes after.

SFO1 John Herediano of MFS said that no one was hurt when the fire broke out.

Pierre Marie Yu, safety officer of the SMBI Fire Watch, said that the fire “was an internal accident.”

MFS estimated the damage at P2.5 million.

Fire investigat­ors were still investigat­ing the cause of fire.

Among the agencies that responded to the incident together with the MFS were the Volunteer Fire Brigade, Bantay Mandaue, Mandaue Accident Control Emergency Rescue Team.

Barangays Mabolo and Hipodromo in Cebu City, and Banilad and Cubacub in Mandaue also assisted them. /
