Witness to attend father’s burial

- KAL

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 is preparing the security of Reolito “Etad” Boniel who will go back to Bohol to attend the funeral of his 65-year-old father, Remigio, who died of heart attack last Saturday.

Senior Insp. Reslyn Abella, regional public information officer, said they do not need a court order for his travel because he is a state witness.

Reolito tagged his cousin, Provincial Board Member Niño Rey Boniel, as the killer of the latter’s wife, Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Bendong-Boniel last June 7.

Gisela’s body was reportedly thrown into the seawaters off Caubian Island in Lapu-Lapu City.

Personnel of the Regional Special Operations Group and Regional Intelligence Division will escort Reolito during the burial on Monday.

Reolito believed that the pressure from Niño Rey’s camp for Remigio to convince him to retract his statements against the board member may have contributed to his father’s death.

Reolito had said that he drove the boat that brought Niño Rey and Gisela to the sea off Caubian where the board member allegedly killed his wife and dumped her body.

Reolito also said that his father was allegedly mad at Niño Rey for putting his son in a difficult situation.

Niño Rey’s legal counsels denied pressuring Reolito’s father.

Niño Rey is currently detained in the Talibon District Jail in Bohol to face the charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention filed by Gisela’s best friend, Angela Leyson and her 17-year-old son last June 29.

As to the search for Gisela’s body, Abella said that there is no order to continue the operation, which was stopped last Tuesday. /
