Zonta 2 supports Alimbukad, Brigada Eskwela

School season is with us again, and the busy members of the Zonta Club of Cebu 2 have joined the bandwagon! First on the agenda was the training seminar organized by the club for the teachers and principals of their Alimbukad member schools: Poo Elementary School in Olango and Luyang Elementary School in San Remigio, Cebu.

Alimbukad: Basa Pamilya is a family literary project that was introduced in public preschools, to ensure that young kids can attain educational excellence through parental engagement.

The seminar was conducted by Zontian Wi Suan Tiu, program coordinator at the Cebu City Public Library recently, with the full cooperation of chief librarian Ruth Chua. Sessions were lively especially the “Learn to Spell” portion wherein the Zontians took the stage, and actually formed words!

Also present were Zontians president Dr. Vivien Seno and Luyang School coordinator Bernie Aboitiz. Indeed, the learning process brought all back to grade school!

One morning, the roar of sirens and the presence of a large gathering of police and security men flooded the streets and gates leading to the Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School (RDMNHS) in Guadalupe, Cebu City.

Little wonder then that the 2017 National Kick-off program of Brigada Eskwela was being held at the school with no less than the bigwigs of Department of Education (DepEd) led by DepEd secretary Leonor M. Briones herself!

The colorful ceremonies had all the trimmings of a national fiesta, with regional dances and songs, and the presence of ABS-CBN child and teenage heartthrobs that sent the predominantly student audience into a frenzy of hysterics! But the DepEd officials were quick to say that these kids (representing the department) were carefully chosen to be role models for the youth!

Members of the Zonta Club of Cebu 2 were likewise there as stakeholders of the RDMNHS where the club also has an Alimbukad chapter among the pre-schoolers.

Here’s to another dynamic year for Zonta 2 in the student sector!
