‘Help us catch your killers’

- KAL

Leah Adolfo laid yesterday morning white candles and white orchids on the ground in Barangay Pulangbato, Cebu City where her daughter Aireen was found dead last Monday.

“Ako lang wish, unta regalo lang sa akong anak, unta mahatagan og katumanan nga masulbad, ang mga nagpatay madakpan lang gyod tanan (My only wish, hopefully as a gift for my daughter, that the case will be solved, that those who killed her will all be arrested),” she said.

The 50-year-old mother, accompanied by her relatives, prayed for her daughter, who would have turned 25 yesterday.

Aireen’s face was smashed with a rock. Leah identified her through her clothes.

“Ikaw ra man gyuy nakahibawo kinsay nagpatay nimo. Tabangi mi (Only you know who killed you. Help us),” Leah spoke as if her daughter was in front of her, then she added, “Pasayloa ko sa nadangatan nimo. Wala gyod ko katabang nimo. Unsa may sala nimo nga giingon ato ka nila? Ayaw sila pakatulga hangtod mangapriso silang tanan (I’m sorry for what happened to you. I wasn’t able to help. What wrong did you do for them to do this to you? Don’t let them rest until they’ll be in jail).”

A mass was held for Aireen last night.

Leah, in an interview, said her daughter did not show unusual behavior before leaving home last Sunday and the latter texted her that she would buy groceries.

When Aireen did not return home that night, Leah failed to sleep.

The next day, she was informed by Aireen’s younger sister that Aireen was found dead in a grassy lot.

“Wa ko kasabot sa akong gibati. Gi- contact kos iyang mga amiga. Wa ko kahibaw nga naay gipatay (I didn’t know what to feel. Her friends contacted me. I didn’t know that someone was killed),” she said.

Aireen, the second child in a brood of four, got a passport, since a job is waiting for her in Japan. She reportedly left the house at 6 p.m. last Sunday, carrying a bag with wallet, automated teller machine (ATM) cards and an expensive phone in it, to buy food for dinner.

She was seen riding a motorcycle-for-hire on the way home.

Leah said she will not forget her daughter’s kindness.

“Matinabangon siya. Siya ang nagsuporta sa among pamilya (She was helpful. She supported our family),” she said. /
