Cops find dead gamefowl near crime scene, confirming Sherwin Velasquez statement that he came from a cockfight last Sunday

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) named Sherwin “Jingle” Velasquez a suspect in the slay of 24-year-old call center agent and model Aireen Adolfo in Barangay Pulangbato.

CCPO Director Joel Doria said there were circumstances pointing out that Velasquez and some of his cohorts were present during the crime.

“But hesitant kasi ang witness who saw that Velasquez picked up Adolfo on his motorcycle kaya we’re still pursuing him for an affidavit to give justice to the death of our victim,” Doria said.

Doria said the witness’s testimony was crucial because all they have for now are circumstancial evidence.

The victim reportedly rode with Velasquez at around 6 to 7 p.m. last Sunday from Barangay Pit- os.

Investigation and Detective Management Branch Chief Supt. Ryan Devaras said that a few meters away from the crime scene, investigators found a dead gamefowl that had lost in a cockfight, confirming Velasquez’s previous statement that he came from a cockfight in Mandaue City last Sunday.

“Allegedly, the groceries that Aireen bought were also robbed by Velasquez. At first he was only a person of interest, but in the progress of our investigation, we are zeroing on him and evidence points out that he really did the crime,” Devaras said.

Devaras said they already have the names of Velasquez’s cohorts and are hunting them down.

The IDMB chief said the family of Aireen, especially the father, couldn’t believe that Velasquez, the victim’s own uncle was the one who killed her.

“Velasquez and the victim’s father were reportedly close friends and are cousins. That’s why, he couldn’t believe it was his own kin who killed his daughter,” Devaras said.

The police official said investigators are reviewing the close-circuit television (CCTV) footage to look for Velasquez’s motorcycle to establish the crime.

The police are waiting for the affidavit for them to file a case of robbery and homicide against Velasquez.

Ramonito Tribunalo, the second person of interest was already cleared of his participation to the crime but is facing a case for possession of illegal ammunitions.

Velasquez is detained for having 10 grams of shabu in his possession during the body frisk when he was picked up for questioning last Tuesday.
