This broadcaster- lawyer who was accused of raping a 13-year- old girl is not my close friend. But let us not be judgmental. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. I am not saying that the girl is lying. She reported the incident to the police only a week after. Let the wheels of justice take its course. But for sure this unnamed ‘ suspect’ is not among my broadcaster- lawyer friends.

Three issues that affects the broadcast media in Cebu surfaced recently. These involve conflict of interest, alleged rape and libel. Broadcasters Arnel Bacalan and Rico Osmeña of dyRC and DyCM, respectively, filed a complaint against dyCM station manager and Capitol Public Information Officer (PIO) Jason Monteclar for conflict of interest. They claimed that Monteclar is receiving salary from dyCM as station manager and on-air personality and is also department head at the Capitol.

Is there conflict of interest there? If Capitol had a blocktime program on dyCM, that’s where conflict of interest would have arisen. Monteclar can even be accused of cornering the budget of Capitol for publicity purposes.

I am not questioning the prerogative of the dyCM management of retaining Monteclar as station manager despite his employment at the Capitol, but managing a radio station is a full time job. How can he effectively manage the radio station when he is also serving Capitol as PIO, an 8 to 5 work? If he is in the radio station, that means he abandoned his Capitol work.

Well, let the Ombudsman decide on the matter. But does Bacalan and Osmeña have personal motives in filing a case against Monteclar? Mga amigo man unta ni sila.

A 13-year old girl accused a radio broadcaster-lawyer of raping her in broad daylight inside his car in Parian last July 3. The girl went to the radio station to ask for money from the broadcaster-law- yer’s program co-host for her school project, as advised by her mother, the laundrywoman of the co-anchor. Since the other broadcaster was not at the station, the girl ask for money from the lawyer for her fare in going home in Labangon.

But the lawyer reportedly offered free ride to the girl and brought her to a secluded portion of Zamora St. in Parian and allegedly raped her inside his car. He then gave her P200 She only reported the matter to the police a week after. Can a rape be consummated inside a car? Maybe it can be.

I am not a friend of this broadcaster-lawyer but let’s not be judgmental with him. Anybody can concoct story. I am not saying that the girl is lying. Let the wheels of justice take its own course.

But for sure, this unnamed suspect is not one among my broadcaster-lawyer friends like Frank Malilong and Eli Espinoa of dyCM, Ruphil Banoc of dyHP, Eddie Barrita of dySS, JT Benz and DX Lapid of dyAB. Manago man gani ni sila kay gukdon sa mga babaye.

Niño Padilla, who co-manages radio dyRC of the Manila Broadcasting Co. (MBC) is facing four counts of cyber libel courtesy of former Cebu City councilor Gerry Carillo. Carillo filed the case after Padilla mentioned in a post on his Facebook account “certain lawyer” who failed to settle his financial obligation with the station for his block time program in last year’s polls. Though not named, Carillo felt alluded to.

Mao na ni karon, ang utangan mao nay mangiha. Bayari na lang na Atty. Carillo, dako bitaw ka’g attorney’s fee sa Boniel case.

I am not a friend of this broadcaster-lawyer but let’s not be judgmental with him
