Man says bye on FB then kills self

A man committed suicide after posting his farewells on Facebook in Atabay, Alcoy last Thursday evening.

Arnel Verola, 21, an electro mechanic student of Cebu Technical University in Argao, posted a status at 2:16 p.m. apologizing to his girlfriend, friends and family for what he was about to do.

He wrote, “Dear my Family and friends and my Baby. I know sayup akung desisyon na buhaton karun i hope mapasaylo ko ninyu okay ra kung masuko mo sa akung mabuhat nga dautan (Dear family and friends and my baby, I know the decision I’m about to make is wrong. I hope you will forgive me, I wouldn’t mind if you’ll get mad at me for doing this).”

His previous posts were along the lines of jealousy. That morning, he wrote, “Yung feeling na pilit mong tinatago na di ka affected pero ang totoo selos na selos ka na (That feeling when you seem to be not affected by something but in reality you are jealous).”

Verola’s suicide post got plenty of reactions and comments. One comment suggested that Verola had attempted suicide in the past.

“Don’t repeat what you did before here. You were lucky your brother got to you before it was too late,” said a comment in Cebuano.

His girlfriend hit back at people who blamed her for his death.

In a comment, she said, “You don’t know the reason why he did. I don’t know, too. Should I be blamed just because I was his girlfriend?”

Verola’s body was discovered by his mother who saw his Facebook status and went to look for him. She found her son hanging from an electric wire in an abandoned house across their home.
