GLOBAL CEBU EYES 3RD STRAIGHT WIN

Global Cebu hopes to extend home streak against Davao Aguilas

-

Global Cebu FC will gun for its third straight win at home and a possible share of the lead when it hosts the Davao Aguilas today at the Cebu City Sports Center at 7 p.m.

Global Cebu, which beat Stallions Laguna, 3-0, in their last game, sits at second with 20 points, three off leaders Meralco Manila. Meralco will host Ceres today and a loss by the Phil Younghusband-led team coupled by a win by Global Cebu could see the Cebu-based club taking the top spot.

However, Davao, which lost to Kaya FC, 5-1, in its last game, is no pushover and will be gunning for a win.

“That has always been the attitude of the team,” said Davao Aguilas coach Gary Phillips during the pre- match press conference.

The Aguilas will be fielding a new player in Jordan Jarvis, the Rookie of the Year from Ateneo de Manila whose mother is Cebuano. Jarvis is a welcome addition to the Davao club, which has eight players getting called up for the national U22 team.

On the other hand, Global captain Misagh Bahadoran, who scored two goals against the Stallions, said the hosts are not taking the Davao team lightly.

“Davao is a rising team and they play very well,” said Bahadoran. “In this league, you can’t take any team lightly because they play very well when they are facing the top teams like Global.”

Global coach Marjo Allado also said that keeper Patrick Deyto is now fully healthy after a late collision against the Ceres game hurt his leg. However, Allado admits that Global is still without a back-up keeper as Nick ODonnel is still sick.

Allado also said that Global Cebu will hold tryouts for local players this morning at the Don Bosco Technological Center field. /
