WHAT MEN WANT

Refuge is a place where gentlemen can hide on a fine shopping day. It’s a destination where men can talk about their feelings openly without being judged or to celebrate life’s little moments where only fellow gentlemen can and will understand. It is a quick stop over for cold drinks, wholesome chat and manly pampering because ladies aren’t the only ones with salon needs.

This sanctuary is located on the second floor of South Coast Center, Linao, Talisay City, Cebu named Brass Barbershop + Lounge, and it’s ready to receive wandering gentlemen.

“The idea of building a barbershop came around five years ago. It was supposed to be a simple barbershop business but then the idea just wasn’t entertained. When we were able to gather again over a few drinks, we came up with the idea of building a barbershop. We envisioned a barbershop with a lounge. It’s basically a gentleman’s hub,” said Ivin Du, one of the owners of Brass Barbershop.

Deciding to create a man cave to cater to men’s pampering needs, three childhood friends namely Eric Brylle Adlawan, Schubert Dichos and Ivin launched the barbershop last May 18. Having been open for over a month already, the place has been the go-to barbershop for men who want a quick fix or a soothing massage before and after a cold beer.

“Our problem was when we get our nails cleaned or our hair done or treated in salons, we sit beside ladies and it’s quite awkward. We can’t usually chill and jam with them so we were thinking of something like a man cave which would have anything that would cater to men’s pampering. This was the problem we wanted to address. Because when ladies get their hearts broken they go to salons, talk to the ladies and treat themselves. We, on the other hand, don’t have anywhere like that other than beer houses and we wish for a wholesome alternative so that at least we’d have this happy place to go home to and somewhere to celebrate also,” said Schubert.

For P200, a gentleman can get a haircut of whatever style he wishes, a free glass of iced tea, a 10-minute massage before and after the haircut, shampoo and pomade. Such a relaxing treat can be enough to lessen the tension and stress of waiting until the ladies are done with shopping.

Brass also offers junior brass, a haircut package offered to eight-year-old boys and below, and executive and brass experience for nine-year-olds and above. Aside from hair grooming, facial grooming and chair massage, the barbershop also offers refreshing drinks ranging from brewed coffee to Heineken, Bacardi and Jack Daniels.

The barbershop is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. everyday.
