Knowles Electronics (Philippines) Corp. and the University of San Jose–Recoletos (USJ-R) recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to implement an in-house masters of business management (MBM) program inside the Knowles factory in Cebu Light Industrial Park in LapuLapu City.

The MOA was signed by Knowles managing director Joseph Emmanuel Liwag and Human Resources ( HR) director Agnes Lucente, while USJ-R was represented by USJ-R president Rev. Fr. Christopher Maspara, and vice president for academics Rev. Fr. James Bumangabang.

The MBM program is open not only to Knowles staff but also to employees of other companies in the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza) locations who wish to earn a post- graduate degree.

The MBM program will run for 15 months and the different courses will be handled by USJ-R professors.

Through the collaboration and shared vision of Knowles and USJ-R management, higher education has been made accessible to employees by bringing the school to the workplace.

The pioneer batch of the Knowles in-house master’s pro- gram is composed of 25 students, 11 of whom are Knowles employees from HR, engineering, facilities, supply chain, finance and QA; while the rest are from companies, such as Peza, LRDC, Duck-il Korea Inc., Taiyo Yuden, Philippine Iino, Cebu Microelectronics, Teradyne and Jollibee.

The in-house masters’ program is the second collaboration of Knowles and USJ-R after launching the first acoustic engineering elective course in Cebu.

Also in the works is the development of a manufacturing engineering course that will hopefully be included in USJ-R’s curriculum.
