After a a tough loss last Thursday night, the Ateneo de Manila University ( AdMU) Blue Eaglets showed no mercy against host team Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, 88- 59, in the 2nd San Remegio Properties Invitational Basketball Tournament at the Magis Eagles Arena at the SHS- AdC Canduman Campus Friday evening.

It only took a few minutes for the Blue Eaglets to establish control of the game with Sam Belangel taking charge. After an evenly-fought first quarter, Belangel scored 11 points to put the Manila squad ahead, 27-15.

Belangel continued his display of his outside shooting prowess to put AdMU comfortably ahead by 25, 55- 30, at halftime.

Nothing seems to work for coach Rommel Rasmo’s boys who clearly missed the contributions of its team captain and MVP Jed Colonia, who is still recuperating from an ACL operation. On the other end, coach Joe Silva’s wards were having a field day, building a 71-41 lead entering the final quarter.

However, SHS-AdC can take comfort in the loss since it discovered new go-to guys for the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) season, which opens next month.

Jhon Benedict Yu finally displayed his potential both in offense and defense, and rookie Jonathan Ralph Gesalem showed he can knock down triples.

Belangel, who sank 11 of 19 field goals, scored the gamehigh 29 points; Joaquin Enrico Manuel made 11 points; and Dave Ildefonso and Jason Credo finished with 10 points each for the Blue Eaglets. Andrew Velasco was the lone Magis Eagles to score in double digits with 10 points.

In the main game, the Colegio de Santa Ana de Victorias (CSAV) Titans stayed unbeaten with a clinical 87-67 win over the Western Leyte College Mustangs.

Jeffrey Manday scored 25 points, Carl Magbanua made 12 points, Junior Essakadoulla added 11, and Sean Sajo contributed 10 points for the Titans. Carmelo Jose Sano topscored with 21 points and Noel Mascariñas finished with 14 points as the Mustangs suffered their second loss in as many games. /
