Global Cebu FC draws with Meralco in PFL

-

Global Cebu FC got its second straight draw following a 2-2 deadlock with FC Meralco Manila in the Philippines Football League (PFL) yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

After losing starter Matt Hartmann and key reserve Nick O'Donnell in the transfer window to the Davao Aguilas, Darryl Roberts picked up the slack with an impressive PFL debut scoring a brace for the Cebuano side.

James Younghusband gave the go-ahead goal for Meralco in 29th minute with a strike from a rebound.

Roberts scored the equalizer with a 34th minute goal after breaking away from the defense.

Global goalkeeper Patrick Deyto saved a free kick attempt by Meralco skipper Phil Younghusband right before halftime.

In the 54th minute, Phil gave Meralco the lead.

However, Roberts was in top form and equalized with a goal in the 60th minute.

Meralco had two good looks at the goal but Deyto was up on his toes to deny what could have been the winning goal.

Roberts had an opportunity to score the winning goal for Global but he passed on the shot to give it to Misagh Bahadoran, who shot it wide.

This was Robert's first match in the PFL. He last saw action in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup.

Meralco is back up on top with 24 points followed by Kaya FC-Makati with 23. Global remained at third place with 22 points, closely trailed by Ceres Negros FC.

Ceres Negros FC was up against revamped Davao Aguilas FC at the Panaad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod City.
