SLATE: MORE THAN A QUIRKY PLATE

So much has changed in the city’s foodscape in the last three years and more and more restaurants consistently outdo themselves to sate Cebuanos’ cravings. Moreover, dishes are being served in creatively elaborate ways, from deconstructed desserts on wooden boards to what have you.

But unlike others who only #doitforthegram, Slate District at Parkmall takes pride not just in its quirky plating—hello, hanging skewers and slates for standard plates—but also in the palatability of the plated food itself. A childhood dream come true, the 30-seater restaurant is owned and run by Jackielyn Lua and husband Shane Bernard Lua. Both of them went to culinary arts school, and Shane used to work as a chef in a fivestar luxury hotel and resort.

Slate District is where people can take a peek inside the globetrotting couple’s travel diary as the dishes and the interior décor are inspired by their many trips abroad. Best described as comfort food with a kick, here are some of the must-try items on the menu:

Jack Slate Chicken—wings two-ways: teriyaki and buffalo, served with a blue cheese dip.

Grilled Pork Steak—pork chop in an herb sauce, grilled to a savory and juicy perfection.

Orlando Fish Taco—fish fillet fried to a crisp, topped with Slate’s special sauce, made to taste like the ones in Orlando, Florida.

Pork Sisig Sarap—the same sizzling goodness sold in their Sisig Sarap food kiosks.

Cheese District Burger—an original creation, this is packed with an Angus beef quarterpound patty, mozzarella cheese sticks, and homemade tomato chutney, served with fries and coleslaw.

Slate Chops and Slate Ribs Platters are also available so one can sample a little of every Slate specialty.

“Here at Slate District, we use only the highest quality ingredients. Our challenge and direction in the food industry is not to be a fad, but to excel and reach our maximum potential as one of the best restaurants in the city. We will be constantly updating our menu for our new and returning customers,” says Jackielyn.

Slate District is located at Parkmall and is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
