NNC 7 PROMOTES NUTRITION IN SCHOOL
The National Nutrition Council marks Nutrition Month by promoting healthy diet in public schools in Cebu Two babies from Cebu were presented by PopCom 7, who represented the 100millionth Filipinos
In celebration of the Nutrition Month, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) said it is coordinating with the Department of Education in its campaign to stop the selling of junk food in schools.
NNC 7 Director Dr. Parolita Mission said that junk food is making students overweight and obese.
In order to get rid of this, NNC is promoting the Nutrition Month’s theme, “Healthy Diet, Gawing Habit for Life.”
Mission also urged the public to avoid sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) to prevent illnesses, such as diabetes. She said that parents must produce healthy meals and in budget so the children would appreciate it.
“We must have intake in fruits and vegetables so we can get good protein for our body,” said Mission during the 888 News Forum held at the Marco Polo Plaza.
In the same forum, Population Commission (PopCom) 7 information officer Myrna Alaba presented two babies as symbolic 100millionth Filipinos.
The two are Paul James Gregory Entis in the northern Cebu town of Sogod and Kyle Olendang in the midwestern Cebu town of Pinamungajan.
Accompanied by their mothers, Entis and Olendang were given gift check and cake by lawyer Sheryl Villarta-Ygay, also of Popcom 7.
Entis was born at 12:40 a.m. on July 27, 2014, while Olendang was born at 12:44 a.m. on the same day.
Alaba said that the significance of July 27, 2014 was that it was the time that the Philippines has reached a population of 100 million. /
