DENIM ‘STAR’ OF NORTHWING FASHION SHOW
The Northwing at SM City Cebu presented Glitterati 7: Electric Dreams last July 7.
Highlighting denim, the show featured best loved brands of SM like Forever 21, Levi’s, ForMe, Mango, Terranova and Penshoppe. No only that, it also presented Cebu City’s young personalities including Daniella Baroud, Pietre Dakay, Laura Darza, Alessandra Gruet, Selly Heo, Mikio Kuribayashi, Heather Marie Lim, Kirsten Dawn Mata, Luis Miguel Moro IV, Veronika Rivera, Liam Sacal, Sean Quitevis, Chloe Young, Daisy Zambrano and Jack Zambrano, who donned the creations that incorporated denim and neon by three of the city’s roster of budding designers: Lian Lacandalo, Pearl Arandia and Pinky Magalona.
Adding floral embroidered patches to the neon and denim combination, Lian’s creation portrayed resort vibe designs that stemmed from days listening to The Beach Boys and tropical-themed house music hits.
“I wanted them to feel free and active. I wanted it to seem as if they could just continue on walking off the runway and go wherever they want to go with the pieces on them,” said Lian.
Often inspired by constructivist-esque color-blocking, Pearl Arandia shared that for
the ensembles presented, she wanted the personalities who wore her designs to feel confident and young.
“I was inspired by Roksanda’s Resort wear 2015,” she said. “The use of color blocking, the denim and neon, I wanted the look to be eyepopping since the theme was neon and denim; making the models look more young.”
Pinky Magalona brought back the ‘80s with her collection.
“I wanted to create a look that would describe their personalities. I used different silhouettes that would look good on them,” shared Pinky. “We are given the task to create a denim with neon accents, so I thought of making something really cute and fun to wear that matches their age, also adding details like a heart shape and bows that are going to be a trend next season.”
Glitterati is an annual fashion show that continues to bring something fresh and vibrant as seen on the runway year after year. With the flurry of colors seen in the designs that night, it comes as no surprise that it remains to be one of the city’s much-anticipated shows.
