■ EXEC RUNNERS CLUB TO REVIVE GLORY DAYS

- RSC

The Cebu Executive Runners Club (CERC) hopes to revive the “glory days” of Cebu’s premiere running event on Jan. 14, 2018 at the Cebu Business Park. CERC had been supporting in the last four years Rio dela Cruz of Runrio, a Manila-based running company, after it spearheaded the race in its first six years. “There will be more members of CERC who will be involved in this. The right word to describe this year should be better or should I say it will be back to the glory days,” said CERC member Meyrick Jacalan.

CERC replaces Run Rio as Cebu Marathon organizer Group behind first edition wants to bring back festive atmosphere in 2018 Cebu Marathon to offer early registration starting today until Sunday

The Cebu Executive Runners Club (CERC) is back at the helm as the 2018 Cebu Marathon. It wants to bring back the “glory days” of the Cebu’s premiere running event, which is set on Jan. 14 at the Cebu Business Park.

CERC took the supporting role in the last four years to Rio dela Cruz of Runrio, a Manila-based running company, after spearheading the race in the first six years.

“There will be more members of CERC who will be involved in this. The right word to describe next year should be better or should I say it will be back to the glory days,” said CERC member Meyrick Jacalan during the events’ first press conference at the Mooon Cafe-Ayala.

John Pages said that they will have the early bird registration on July 28 to 30 at the Active Zone Ayala Center Cebu.

Early registrants will get a lim- ited edition Commemorative 2xU Race Tee. This is applicable for the 42-kilometer and 21K categories.

The Commemorative 2XU Race Tee is worth about P2,200 and is available only for registrants on July 28 to 30. The early bird registration rate is P1,100 for 21K and P1,400 for 42K.

“The big difference this year is we have partnered with two big names in sporting equipment: 2XU and New Balance,” said CERC president Kenneth Casquejo.

Casquejo, the owner of Iconic Sports and Events, will spearhead the technical aspect of the race together with local volunteers.

“We hope to make it more festive since Cebu Marathon is known for it,” said Casquejo.

Pages said that the other giveaways for this year include finishers’ medal, sling bag, embroidered towel and accident insurance.

“We are happy to announce that it’s back in Cebu,” said Pages. “We have this giveaway this year which price is more than the registration fee.”

The early bird registration for Cebu Marathon 2018 for the 42K and 21K is P400 cheaper compared to this year’s edition.

Aside from 21K and 42K, the 11th year will feature 10K and 5K road races. As in past editions, the participants will have timing chips on their race bibs.

The race, which is part of the activities of the annual Sinulog Festival, expects to draw a little over 4,000 participants.

The marathon route will start and finish at the Cebu Business Park and will cover Cebu City’s premier business district, the Provincial Capitol, Osmeña Blvd., Fuente Osmeña, Colon St., Sto. Niño Church, and the SRP Tunnel. /
