MANDAUE CITY COUNCIL SUPPORTS UBER, GRAB
Council urges President Rodrigo Duterte to uphold right of commuters to choose what transportation system to enjoy
The Mandaue City Council has showed support for transportation companies like Uber and Grab, citing safety and convenience of the riding public.
During their regular session last Wednesday, the City Council approved a resolution urging President Rodrigo Duterte to up- hold and protect the right of the commuters to choose what transportation system they want to enjoy by allowing and promoting transportation network vehicle (TNVS) providers like Uber and Grab.
Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna and five other councilors served as sponsors of the resolution.
Fortuna said that with the advent of smart phones and applications, “passengers (are) becoming more discerning and demanding of better and comfortable service.”
According to the resolution, it was in 2015 when Department of Transportation and Communication and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) allowed the TNVS like Grab, Uber and Uhop in the country.
“LTFRB issued and implemented LTFRB memo circular 015-018 to allow and regulate the operations of TNVS as common carriers. Recently the LTFRB has taken steps to reverse its position and threaten to suspend or stop the operations of TNVS in the country,” a part of the resolution read.
Fortuna together with Councilors Elstone Dabon, Raul Cabahug V, Cynthia Remedio, Carmelino Del Mar Jr. and Nilo Seno, have seen how the riding public approved of the services offered by Uber and Grab.
The City Council sent a copy of the resolution to the Department of Transportation, LTFRB, the Cebu Provincial Board, Cebu Gov. Hilario Davide III, Uber, Grab, the city mayor and the Presidential Assistant for Visayas Michael Dino.
