Lim says he is set to go to DOJ hearing on his alleged involvement with illegal drug trade

Cebuano businessman Peter Lim yesterday called the testimony of one Marcelo Adolfo against him a “brazen lie” and a “fabricated statement.”

In a telephone interview with Sunstar Cebu, Lim denied that he is in hiding, and said, he is ready to go to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for investigation come Aug. 14, 2017.

Lim said he is confused about why the authorities publicized the summons when a subpoena can be received by his staff, unlike a warrant that needs his presence.

“The question is: Will I attend the DOJ hearing? My answer is: I will definitely attend the hearing because it’s easy to answer a brazen lie and a fabricated testimony,” Lim said.

Lim urged the Cebu media to review the publications of Philippine Daily Inquirer and other media outlets in the country, wherein Adolfo also testified before the police that they (Lim, Kerwin Espinosa and Adolfo) met in Thailand.

“I told Cebu media when they sought my comment that I was happy because of Adolfo’s reve- lation that we’ve met in Thailand because that is the proof of the greatest lie on earth. The government will know that I never went to Thailand,” Lim said.

Lim added that he urged the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to investigate Adolfo’s claim so they may know that he never went to Thailand.

“There was no investigation on that alleged Thailand meeting. And now, they are transferring the fabricated venue to Makati? I repeat, that is a lie,” Lim said.

Lim added that his lawyer will get a copy of the complaint from DOJ and they will answer it formally and legally.

Conspiracy

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) wants the DOJ to look into the possible “criminal conspiracy” between Lim and self-confessed drug lord Espinosa and his cohorts.

Supt. Richard Verceles, CIDG Major Crimes Investigation Unit officer-in-charge, asked Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II to investigate Lim, Espinosa, Peter Co, Lovely Impal, Marcelo Adorco, Espinosa’s aide, and 17 unidentified drug pushers.

They were charged with violation of Sec. 26 (b) (conspiracy), Sec. 5 (sale, trading, delivery, dis- tribution and transportation) of Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Law).

They are reportedly operating their drug trade in Makati and Central Visayas.

In the complaint filed before the DOJ, the CIDG said that Espinosa’s group called “Boss K” who served as the transporter, trader, seller, and distributor of shabu in Regions 7 and 8.

The group allegedly got their drug supplies from Co, Impal and Lim.

Last July 8, 2016, police arrested Adorco, Kerwin’s former aide, and his four cohorts, in a buy-bust.

Adorco confessed that they got their drug supplies from the Espinosas, Co, Lim, and Impal.

He commented on the conspiracy of his group and their drug suppliers.

In February 2013, Adorco was able to transact 20 kgs. of shabu from Co and another 20 kgs. from Lim.

Last June 7, 2015, Lim also allegedly supplied 50 kgs. of shabu to Espinosa, which were distributed to Bohol, Samar, Northern and Southern Leyte, and some parts of Cebu.

Adorco, reportedly Kerwin’s confidant, accompanied the latter in various trips in his drug transactions abroad.

“Thus, Adorco’s knowledge and first-hand information on their drug operations involving other respondents cannot be over emphasized,” the charge sheet read.

The investigation showed a supposed conspiracy to sell, deliver, transport and distribute in some areas in Regions 7 and 8 among the respondents began since June 2013.

“This fact of pronouncement of the President and existence of drug menace in some parts of the country is a public knowledge and/or capable of unquestionable demonstration,” the complaint read. /
