One of the women arrested is an education student who has taken over her boyfriend’s drug trade while he is serving time in jail; drug bust happened August 9 in Tisa, Cebu City

Suspect Mheacy Empasis, 23, who claims to be a college student, reportedly took over her live-in partner's illegal drug business after he was arrested during a drug bust last month

A woman claiming to be a college student and her cohort yield- ed close to P13 million worth of shabu during a drug bust in Sitio Manga, Barangay Tisa, Cebu City last Wednesday night.

The City Intelligence Branch (CIB) and the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) arrested Mheacy "Zhaiie" Empasis, 23, and Trinidad "Trining" Lumactud, 46 at 10 p.m.

"She took over her live-in part- ner's contacts. He played big in the illegal drug trade in the areas of V. Rama, Barangays Duljo-Fatima and Inayawan and also can cross boundary in the city of Talisay," said Chief Insp. Cristopher Navida, CIB head.

"Well-connected"

Anti-drugs operatives seized more than one kilo of illegal drugs from the two with a Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) value of P12,685,000.

Navida said they are also looking into shooting incidents in Tisa as the victims may have been suspected of being police assets.

"We placed her (Empasis) under two months monitoring. She is heavily-protected by drug pushers, who sourced their drugs from her in the area," he said.

Empasis, who said she is taking an education course, was the subject of the buy-bust. She reportedly has links to Layme Parba, a drug personality serving time inside the Cebu City Jail.

Parba was arrested in a buybust last July.

Empasis was allegedly his livein partner. She continued his illegal drugs business after his arrest, Navida said.

"The operation stemmed from the buy-bust of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 7. We received reports that Empasis sourced her stash from the late Frederick Villamala, whose source was traced to the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP)," Navida said.

Villamala, whose father was reportedly an inmate in the NBP, was killed during an operation by PDEA 7 agents last Wednesday in Barangay Sambag 1.

Empasis and Lumactad will face a non-bailable charge for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
