Cebu City Police Chief Joel Doria gets a windfall of P1 million, thanks to the Metrobank Foundation Inc. that has zeroed in on him and nine others in its Search for 10 Outstanding Filipinos in 2017.

Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Joel Doria was declared as one of Metrobank Foundation's Outstanding Filipinos 2017.

Doria, who was the only nominee in Central Visayas, told SunStar Cebu that he was thankful for the award.

He said that he will use the cash prize of P1 million to send his two children and the 36 foster students of CCPO to school.

Doria said that he will also continue projects in relation to Oplan Pokemon and promised to render more effort for community engagement.

"I will encourage station commanders to emulate and innovate with the anti-drugs program," he said.

Oplan Pokémon was named after a popular augmented reality game, Pokémon Go, in which players try to catch virtual “pocket monsters."

The Metrobank Foundation, in a statement, said that it chose uniformed personnel from the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines and teachers whose "accomplishments have inspired and influenced their peers as well as the people in their respective communities."

Aside from the P1 million cash, awardees will also receive a gold medallion and a trophy during the conferment ceremonies on Sept. 7 as part of Metrobank's 55th anniversary.
