Public safety training course graduates swear not to be swayed by corruption

A single mother and a criminology graduate, who topped the sixmonth basic public safety course, vowed to go after criminals and promised they will not be lured by drug lords’ money.

Lucille Waminal, who has a one-year-old daughter, and Grace Irene Diwan topped the class with 92.25 grade. They were among the 389 Police Officer (PO) 1s of Class Ephesians who graduated yesterday morning.

“As a public servant, I will do my best to serve the public in the right way,” Waminal said.

The 23-year-old native of Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental said she plans to take up law.

For her part, Diwan, who hails from Bukidnon, said she is ready to catch pushers.

“I am willing to give not just my heart, but also my life, to serve my country as a police officer,” she said.

Their training started last February in Camp Jessie M. Robredo, the headquarters of the Regional Training School 7 in Barangay Jugan, Consolacion.

Chief Supt. Jose Mario Espino, the Police Regional Office 7 director, said he was amazed that the top of the class were women.

“It is encouraging that female police (officers), nowadays, are really competing against men,” he said.

Espino urged the rookie police officers to go after criminals, including big-time drug personalities.

He promised to give spot promotions to any of the non-commissioned officers who can catch big fish.

Espino reminded the graduates that the simple way to prevent crime is patrolling the streets. /
