San Fernando to have own Veco substation

- JKV

The Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) will soon construct a new substation and switching station in a seaside village in San Fernando, Cebu.

Officials of Veco and the San Fernando Municipal Government held a groundbreaking ceremocy for the new substation and switching station in Barangay Panadtaran yesterday.

With a new substation and switching station on the way, the town’s power consumers no longer need to depend on the substation in the neighboring City of Naga, said Veco chief operations officer Anton Mari Perdices.

The proposed substation will be constructed in a 1,800-square-meter property and is projected to be energized by June next year.

Perdices said that when completed, the proposed substation and switching station will have a total transformation capacity of 12.5 megavolt amperes (MVA) at 69/23 kilovolts (KV).

Perdices also assured residents living near the substation that their operations will not affect them.

Engr. Noel Modesto, VECO assistant vice president for engineer- ing and technical support, said the substation is needed to accommodate the increase in power demand and the rapid growth of the City of Naga and San Fernando.

In a separate interview, San Fernando Mayor Lakambini “Neneth” Reluya said that with the presence of the substation, the town will “truly shine at its brightest.”

With a Veco substation in the town, Reluya expects more sitios in the town have power.

She said that about 40 percent of sitios in San Fernando still don’t have electricity./
