Garganera mulls filing new raps v. City Hall

- RVC

Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera said he will file another complaint against the City Government following the concerns on the operation of the private transfer station of garbage in Barangay Inayawan.

In an interview, Garganera said that he visited the transfer station yesterday and found out that piles of garbage were still stored there.

Garganera said that the piles of garbage is about 10 meters in height.

This, even if the Department of Public Services (DPS) said that Pasajero Motors Corp. (Pamocor), the private service provider that currently handles the garbage disposal of the city, has continuously hauled the wastes stored at the Inayawan transfer station.

“It’s no longer a transfer station, it’s a dumpsite already,” he told reporters.

Under the Philippine Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, a transfer station is a facility that accepts garbage and stored it there on a temporary basis.

Garganera suspected that these wastes are not only from the city, that’s why there is a need for the City Government to come up with guidelines on the weighing of garbage collected from the barangays.

“How can we be too sure that the garbage are from Cebu City?” he said.

Garganera said the City should have its own weighing scale to determine the weight of garbage being brought to the transfer station from the barangays.

Earlier, the City Council tasked DPS to submit a detailed report on the operational procedure in the collection, hauling and disposal of garbage.

The council wanted to know the services provided by Pamocor starting from the disposal to the transfer station to the final disposal site in the private landfill in Consolacion town.

Sought for comment, DPS assistant department head John Paul Gelasque said he will have the matter checked. /
