GBP WINS AWARD IN DENR GAWAD TUGAS
Gawad Tugas started in June 2015, which aims to recognize institutions that have made significant and outstanding contribution in the protection, conservation, and management of our environmental and natural resources
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 recognized the Global Business Power (GBP) Corp., with Cebu Energy Development Corp. and Toledo Power Company as its subsidiaries, as one of the awardees during the recently held 3rd Gawad Tugas.
With nine categories, GBP received the Clean Air and Water Award through the controls the company implements to reduce emissions and discharges. These controls include its waste water treatment, limestone injection and electrostatic precipitator or its clean coal technology. Along with GBP, Cebu Mitsumi also received the Clean Air and Water Award.
“In selecting the nominees for this category, we would like to emphasize that we have only selected the best two companies. We see to it that they are 10 over 10 in terms of performance, environmental laws compliance and in bringing happiness to the community,” said Environmental Management Bureau 7 Director William Cuñado.
The awardees of the 3rd Tugas were screened and chosen based on the advancement, sup- port and innovations in the region’s environmental mandate, vision, goals and policy statements; dedication and demonstration of good environmental and sustainability practices beyond normal responsibilities; leadership as role model for others; implementation within the last 12 months ( June 2016– May 2017).
“It has been a mandate of GBP to not only provide power but also remain as a reliable and trusted partner to our communities. We take conscious effort to consider the welfare of the environment in our operations. GBP does not settle with just compliance, we go beyond compliance,” said Leah Diaz, GBP first vice president– dead for Cebu operations.
The other eight categories of Tugas Award were Biodiversity Conservation and Management, Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management, Enforcement of Environmental Laws, Forest Protection and Management, National Greening Program, Patent Issuance, Protected Area Management, and Responsible Mining.
