Global suffers worst loss

Forced to play without its regular keeper, Global Cebu FC suffered its most lopsided loss in the Philippine­s Football League, 5-2, to JPV Marikina FC yesterday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

Global Cebu FC’s star goalie Patrick Deyto sat the match out to serve his suspension and without a back-up goalkeeper, midfielder Misagh Bahadoran stepped in as his replacemen­t.

Global Cebu FC was off to a rough start with Bahadoran immediatel­y conceding a goal in just two minutes from Takumi Uesato. Uesato scored another in the 13th minute and completed a hat-trick five minutes later.

Takashi Odawara joined the offensive onslaught of JPV Marikina FC, hitting the back of the net in the 34th minute. Uesato scored his fourth goal a minute later to give JPV Marikina FC a commanding 5-0 lead.

Global Cebu FC refused to quit and finally hit their first goal in the 63rd minute compliment­s of Spanish striker Rufo Sanchez. Dennis Villanueva scored Global Cebu FC’s second goal in the 82nd minute if regulation.

Despite the loss, Global Cebu FC remained at second place with 28 points. JPV Marikina FC also stayed at fifth place with 22 points but closed in on fourth place Ceres Negros FC, which has 25 points.

FC Meralco Manila is still at the top with 33 points, while Kaya FC-Makati is at third with 27 points.

Global Cebu FC returns to Cebu City this Saturday and will host Kaya FC-Makati at the Cebu City Sports Center in a crucial battle for the league’s second spot. /
