5 barangay workers positive in drug test

-

Five workers of Barangay Labangon, Cebu City tested positive for illegal drug use during the surprise drug test conducted by the City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) last Wednesday.

A total of 138 barangay officials and workers of Labangon were subjected to the surprise test, said Cosap chief Garry Lao.

“We’ve already endorsed the names of these five employees to the barangay captain after they tested positive,” he said.

Lao said it will be up to Labangon Barangay Captain Victor Buendia to decide whether or not to terminate their services.

Since February up to present, more than 100 employees from 13 barangays in the city were tested positive of illegal drug use.

Yesterday, more than 150 personnel of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) also underwent surprise drug testing.

Lao said most of them are of- fice workers since they can’t pull out all the traffic enforcers from the streets.

“But it doesn’t mean that we will not conduct a surprise drug test for them. We will schedule another test for them,” he said.

Result of the CCTO personnel’s drug test will be out today

Lao said there were already 27 employees of City Hall who were found into illegal drugs.

Unlike in the barangays, Lao said the City employees’ services will immediately be terminated in compliance with Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s directive. /
