Products worth your peso

- JOANNA CUENCO joanna.cuenco@gmail.com

I’ve recently written about P40 hair doughnuts and P100 smudge-proof brow pencils in this corner. Everyone loves a beauty bargain, but what about those that cost a pretty peso? Here, some products I’ve personally found to be worth the splurge.

Becca cheek palettes

Becca products are wonderful because they make skin look expensively, believably glowy. I can’t bring myself to drop almost P2,000 for one powder highlighter compact, so I wait for these limited edition palettes. For another P1,000 or so you’ll get four or five huge pans of blush and highlighter in different shades. You can definitely use them on eyes as well. I love both the Jaclyn Hill and Chrissy Teigen collaborations with Becca.

Urban Decay Naked palettes

Any one of these palettes is bound to be in heavy rotation in your makeup arsenal if you are a fan of eyeshadow. Each one has a dozen shades that all work perfectly together for any eye look you have the imagination or time for. I’ve had these for years and the quality has not changed because I always keep my products and brushes clean.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara

This is the only mascara I’ve ever splurged on because I tend to go for drugstore varieties the rest of the time. Mascara is one of those products you must throw out after a few months so I don’t see the point of spending too much on it. But I’m yet to find a mascara as lengthening and curl-holding as this one by Tarte. I’ve used up two of these tubes since the effect is too dramatic for my everyday, but grab this if you want lashes to look almost fake with the length and volume it creates.

Lakme Teknia hair care

As someone who’s been coloring her hair for a decade, I’m always on the lookout for hair care that won’t further damage my strands. The Lakme Teknia shampoo and conditioner are the most I’ve spent on hair products, but it’s almost unbelievable how these make colored hair so soft and alive again, especially when blow-dried. I need less than the usual amount I normally use for shampoo and conditioner, so these bottles have lasted me for months. Available at Piandre Salon, Oakridge Business Park.
