Man says he's with MIG, arrested for illegal guns
A businessman who claimed that he was a member of the Military Intelligence Group (MIG) was arrested through a search warrant for possession of illegal firearms yesterday morning.
Henry Punay, 57, was caught by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 in Barangay San Jose, Cebu City.
“We received reports that he was sighted with a gun tucked in his waistband while he was out,” Senior Insp. Edwin Lacostales, CIDG 7’s Police Community Relations Officer said.
The CIDG 7 seized a KG-9 submachine gun, a caliber .45 pistol, a caliber 9mm, 56 live bullets of 9mm and 30 bullets of .45 from Punay.
Punay, a supplier of construction filling materials like sand and gravel, said that the 9mm was issued to him and he has a mission order.
“I believe that it might be one of those drug personalities I helped police to catch or my competitors in business,” Punay said in an interview with reporters.
Punay also failed to show his license of authority to present firearms to the authorities.
The search warrant was issued by Judge Antonio Marigomen of Branch 61 of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) of Bogo City.
He will face charges for the violation of RA 10591 or illegal possession of firearms.
