Mövenpick Hotel Mactan launches ‘Kilo of Kindness’
Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu is one of 46 Mövenpick properties around the world calling on guests and residents to donate food, clothing and educational supplies to help local families in need as it launches the 2017 “Kilo of Kindness” charity drive.
The global campaign, which marks the United Nations (UN) International Day of Charity on Sept. 5, will see donated items distributed to disadvantaged local communities by each hotel’s charity partner.
Guests and visitors are invited to drop off at least one kilo of food, clothing and educational supplies at the hotel lobby during the two-week campaign, which runs from Sept. 1 to 15.
These supplies will then be donated to the Cordova Alternative Resource for Education Cen- ter (CARE Center), a foundation that provides education to out-ofschool children.
Target beneficiaries of the program are the out-of-school children in Cordova, ages 7-12 years old, who belong to financially-challenged families and are illiterate without the necessary documents or preliminary training to qualify for acceptance in public schools.
Last year, 926 kilos of supplies were donated to 12 participating hotels–a figure Mövenpick hopes to surpass with this year’s expanded campaign.
Educational supplies in demand include books, notebooks and stationery, such as pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, sharpeners, glue and scissors. Clothing donations will also be accepted, as well as canned and dried (unperishable) foods, such as rice, beans, oats, pasta, cereals, flour and powdered milk.
The Kilo of Kindness campaign is part of Mövenpick’s global corporate social responsibility program, Shine.
Shine’s initiatives are grouped around three pillars—environment, employer and social sustainability—with education the common focus.
