USJ-R shoots for share of lead in Cesafi basketball

-

The University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars will be shooting to gain a share of the lead in the college division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) when they face the streaking University of Cebu Webmasters when the first round of the elimination phase of the college competition closes tonight at the Cebu Coliseum.

For the Jaguars, a slice of the leader’s pie would be an ego-booster towards the tougher second round campaign, where all games are important for a ticket to the Final Four.

With a 4-1 record, the win would put USJ-R alongside defending champion University of the Visayas Green Lancers and the University of San Carlos Warriors but a loss would slip them back one game behind the leaders.

The Jaguars needed extra muscle and higher basketball IQ as the Webmasters are currently on a roll after scoring two straight wins coming from back-to-back defeats.

What makes the Webmasters a strong force is Cameroonian center Frederick Elombi Ngoh.

For the past two wins, Elombi registered monster performances including a 43 point, 21 rebound, five blocks and two steals output in their 107-95 overtime win over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers and the 26 points, 15 rebounds, two steals and two blocks he posted in UC’s 75-57 win over the Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats.

Meanwhile, the UV Baby Lancers will try to keep their record clean in the high school division, when they face the USC Baby Warriors.

The Baby Lancers is making its way back to the finals and an elimination round sweep would give them an automatic slot to the finals.

The Baby Warriors however, will try all their best to win another game and move closer to a hotly contested semifinal match.
