Province creates task forces to work on road projects
The Cebu Provincial Government has created six task forces to open or maintain roads by next year.
Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora said that Gov. Hilario Davide III has bought through public bidding the equipment needed for these projects.
Jamora said two bulldozers and two graders have arrived, and they are waiting for the arrival of other equipment, like backhoes, dump trucks, payloaders and safeloaders.
“Once the equipment needed will be completed, the opening of roads and the maintenance of existing ones will start. Each task force will be assigned to each district,” Jamora said.
Capitol will spend only for the fuel and the salaries of equipment operators. The requesting municipal or city government will facilitate the acquisition of road-right-of-way.
“The LGUs (local government units) will submit to us the deeds of donation for the road opening before the projects start,” Jamora said.
Jamora added that once a road is opened, it should be accessible to other barangays or towns.
He said that landowners who will donate lots for roads will benefit because they can easily transport their products and services and the price of their properties will go up.
The Davide administration will open about 130.276 kilometers of roads by next year.
Jamora will coordinate with the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) under Architect Florentino Nimor to make sure these roads will become alternate routes.
