Korean Air helps Bicol residents
Korean Air’s volunteer groups Didimdol and Sarangnanum flew to the Philippines in order to continue its volunteer activity for the year. Last Aug. 20, 25 members of the groups went to Bicol region for a week to help out the local community and to bring people together as a symbol of hope.
Bicol is in the southern part of Luzon. The region was ravaged by typhoon Rammasun in July 2014, and the place is still recovering. Since 2005, Korean Air’s volunteer group has been building shelters for residents against the threat of a typhoon, and providing free meals for the local residents. In addition, volunteers have built solar heat light bulbs in mountain villages for road safety at night, as well as provided basic drugs and medicines to help prepare for any medical emergencies.
“We take pride in engaging the community and participating in schemes that benefit them in immeasurable ways such as providing worldwide disaster relief. We have responded to flooding, tsunamis, hurricanes, earthquakes and explosions worldwide. We have made a promise to continue to do our utmost to give back to the communities at home and abroad, improving the lives of those in need and cultivating a better tomorrow for the world,” Korean Air said in a statement.
Korean Air has 27 volunteer groups for different projects and community programs at orphanages, rehabilitation centers for the disabled and senior care centers.
