What we learned from that exhibition bout

...the fact that this fight was happening, is a victory already for him. Conor had nothing to lose and almost 100 million reasons to gain.

10. Boxers will always punch harder because of specialization. It’s the efficiency and repetition of movement honed through years of training and fighting in a specific manner under certain rules. Plus, because they have mastered the technique, they don’t get tired easily throwing punches.

11. There’s an adage in boxing about getting strong doing what you are supposed to be doing. In context, that means developing punching power by punching. Not through weight training or a different type of movement. Boxers punch stronger by punching more often. It’s not about size.

McGregor came in a light heavyweight against a middleweight yet, Floyd walked him down. It’s about technique not raw strength.

12. Mcgregor has every reason to be proud of his performance. If the roles were reversed, Floyd would not have lasted one round in an Octagon.

As I’ve stated before, the fact that this fight was happening, is a victory already for him. Conor had nothing to lose and almost 100 million reasons to gain.

No, it was not a premature stoppage. It’s all about the context. Remember that Mayweather was practically walking down Conor the past 5 rounds, and In rounds 9 and 10 Conor had nothing left. His hands were down and was exhausted. There was no way he was going to win. It doesn’t matter how big of a star he is in the MMA world- in the boxing ring this was his first bout. The referee did the right thing by saving him from a savage knockout administered by the best fighter of his generation. He did his duty to protect the losing fighter from further harm; If he wants to, Conor has a future in boxing, but he has to work his way up, which from the look of things seems doubtful.

Sure, he can earn bigger purses in pro-boxing matches, but I doubt how he would fare against the top ten contenders in the 154-160 lbs division. The downside is that now that the cat is out of the bag, future opponents can easily study his style and formulate a strategy to defeat him. Conor did a decent job in the Mayweather fight, but he has also been exposed.

All that he learned in two months time was out there for the world to dissect. I doubt he has any more tricks up his sleeve that would befuddle world class fighters who have been boxing for more than a decade; The fight was a huge pay per view success because it brought together fans from both boxing and MMA. The curiosity level because of the bout’s novelty was at an all time high. This translates into payper-view blockbuster success.

LAST ROUNDS.

Are on two lovebirds, Melissa Sue Pausanos and Lee Villanueva, who are set to exchange endearing “I dos” on Friday. Cheers and Congratulations!
