Four days after suiting up together with the national team, Misagh Bahadoran and Paul Mulders will try to lead Global Cebu FC against a re-tooled Davao Aguilas in the resumption of the Philippines Football League.
Davao, which went on a buying spree during the transfer market, lured brothers Phil and James Younghusband from Meralco Manila, Jason de Jong and Simone Rota from Ceres Negros and Matt Hartmann from Global Cebu.
“We are obviously excited to play for the Aguilas not just for this season but for the seasons to come,” said Phil during the prematch press conference yesterday.
It will be Phil’s first official match with the Davao Aguilas though he suited up for the team during a series of friendlies with Malaysian clubs during the international break. Ironically, Phil’s last game for the Meralco Sparks was against the Davao Aguilas.
Aside from Phil, Davao also signed up Angel Guirado, who once saw action for Global FC in their UFL days while suiting up for the national team.
Last Tuesday, Phil scored in the first half, while James scored in the second during the Azkals 2-2 draw with Yemen. Global FC’s Misagh Bahadoran, Paul Mulders and Hikaru Minegishi were among the players called up for the match.
Global Cebu is on a slump lately, having lost two of its last three games, while drawing the other, to drop to third place with 29 points, trailing Kaya Makati on goal difference. FC Meralco Manila is first with 40 points.
Global Cebu lost to the Stallions Laguna, 2-1, in their Aug. 23 encounter after drawing Kaya Makati at home last Aug. 15. Global also lost to JPV Marikina, 5-0, before the Kaya match but that was because starting keeper Patrick Deyto was suspended and striker Misagh Bahadoran was forced to play keeper. /
