OUT-OF-TOWN BETS RULE OSMEÑA RUN
Kenyans sweep top three spots in men’s division of Osmeña Run Ruffa Sorongon wins women’s division over Lizane Abella Elite runner Noel Tillor tops 30-39 age group of 10K division
Kenyan runners showed swept the men’s half-marathon of the 2017 Don Sergio Osmeña Sr. Run, which wrapped up at the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday.
Eric Chepsiror led the Kenyans as he breasted the tape in 1 hour, 8 minutes and 1 second en route to winning the men’s division and the P20,000 cash purse. Chepsiror’s compatriots Lel Kipchirchir and Jackson Chirchir came in at 1:11:36 and 1:11:52, respectively, to complete the sweep in the men’s class.
Cebu-based Ruffa Sorongon, who hails from Sultan Kudarat, claimed the women’s 21K crown after clocking 1:29:17, beating Lizane Abella by more than one minute. Abella, who clocked 1:31:00, settled for second place, while Jenelyn Nobleza bagged third place in 1:36:48.
In the 10K, elite runner Noel Tillor and weekend warrior Mereeis Ramirez reigned in the men’s and women’s divisions of the 30-39 age-group. Tillor clocked 35:12, while Ramirez timed 46:51.
Spectrum Runners Club’s Engbino “Sano” Desederio timed 37:38 to win the men’s 40-49, while ultra marathoner Sandra Soliano ruled the women’s side in 48:16.
The rest of the winners were Elberto Banzon (42:54) and Jeralyn Abbu (54:58) in the men’s and women’s 50-59 age-group and Adolfo Camello (50:56) and Tessy Escasenas (1:01:16) in the 60-Above.
Arnel Florentino (16:13) won the men’s open 5K, while elite triathlete Jorry Ycong (16:20) placed second and Ariel Saballa (16:24) nabbed third place.
Cherry Andrin (19:25) finished first in the women’s 5K, while Mary Joy Loberanis (19: 30) of University of San Carlos-Basic Education took second and national junior triathlete Karen Manayon (20:05) took third place.
Junior triathlete Moira Frances Erediaño (12:35) of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu topped the women’s 3K, beating Jessel Ochia (12:55) and Lorenz Garcia (14:14).
Khent Lloyd Gabiño (12:20) won the men’s 3K over Kirk Nanz Alison (12:24) and Windel Andrin (12:55). /
